Before beginning your studies at LaSalle College, you will have to take a written language test to measure your skills in the language of instruction chosen, as well as a second language test. The results of this test will allow us to offer you a path adapted to your needs so that you can obtain your Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS). Please see the How and When to Take Those Tests section to see what applies to you.
Language courses are included in DCS programs because it is a requirement for graduation. They are particularly important in order to prepare you for the English Exit Exam. Please note that failure to pass the exam will prevent you from obtaining your diploma. This is why it is important to follow and pass the language course that will be adapted to your needs.
Placement tests for languages of instruction are done by Teams. Students receive an e-mail with a form where they can choose the date they prefer to take the test. They then receive a personalized e-mail with the Teams link to connect to the test. A computer is required to take this test.
We accept standardized tests in English for those registered in English and in French for those registered in French (a written production section is essential for the test to be valid). To provide us with your results, you can send us an electronic copy to our e-mail address: placement.lang.test@collegelasalle.com
Your second language test will be taken on online platforms (CCDMD). You will soon receive an invitation on your personal e-mail containing the link to join the meeting. Students receive invitations with access details (link, login and password). The login is the 7-digit student number. It is also necessary to use a computer to take the tests.
It's important to log in about ten minutes before the start of the test.
Don't forget that this test is mandatory.
If you completed your high school education in the same language as the one in which you are enrolled, you do not have to take a placement test for your language of instruction. You will be classified according to your final grade in French, Secondary V or Grade 12.
Otherwise, you will receive an invitation to take your language of instruction placement test on the Teams platform. At this meeting, a link to a questionnaire will be sent to you in order to complete your test and you will have 1h30 to finish it.
It is important that you log in about 10 minutes before the test begins.
